İ just realized something important.
reddit · 2026-05-01T17:18:28Z · status: new
Creationists claim that since sciences such as archaeology and forensics can detect design, it is a valid scientific practice to detect intelligent design in nature, and that the success of those sciences shows that the methods of intelligent design work in practice.¹ However, after i watched Professor Dave's latest video debunking Ben van Kerkywk İ felt that this argument was fallacious. In the video, Ben van Kerkwyk claims that the pots found in Egypt where too advanced to have been made by the Ancient Egyptians…

Since that time, the archive has grown immensely. It now houses a "post of the month" feature, a local search engine, a user feedback page, and an extensive list of links to other web sites dealing with ...

YEC's In-Group Identity Priming
reddit · 2026-03-13T15:02:19Z · status: new
## _What we say, what they hear_ I've recently come to realize that certain rational rebuttals that we often use fall on deaf ears due to the methods used by YECs in priming the in-group identity. The group identity policing makes use of assigning concepts definitions that ensure high noise-to-signal ratio in any debate. Likewise it makes sense now why TalkOrigin's entries (https://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/) may not work for the hardcore YECs. So here are three rebuttals I've used in the past, what the YECs hea…

The Talk.Origins Archive is back up!
reddit · 2026-03-03T22:44:57Z · status: new
25 years ago, when I was steeped in the futility of debating creationists, I came upon the Talk.Origins Archive which is a collection of content that was originally posted to the Usenet group prior to the World Wide Web (Millennials: Ask me about Gopher and PINE mail!). For those of you who have never read it, it's worth a stroll. But my favorite post of all time has to be the [June 2002 Post of the Month](https://www.talkorigins.org/origins/postmonth/jun02.html) by user rossum. This post lists many of the things…

The old talkorigins.org website resource.
reddit · 2026-02-22T18:39:11Z · status: new
It's been a while since I needed some atheist resources. It seems talk origins is no more because it just shows a "refused to connect" error web page. Did it move or is there an equivalent site that archives all the common theist talking points with references to answer them? I've found a few crude archives, but nothing useful enough. Thanks!

The randomness bogeyman or: what the propagandists are actually afraid of
reddit · 2026-01-13T20:12:02Z · status: new
The pseudoscience propagandists (e.g. Behe) like to clip the wings of selection as I've previously [covered here](https://www.reddit.com/r/DebateEvolution/comments/1jb36z9/the_trojan_horse_of_the_antiscience_propagandists/) (I did actually read Behe to see for myself; plus, [it's public record](https://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/dover/pf.html) - there is no straw manning here). By doing so they pretend evolution is left with nothing but randomness (in more respectable terminology: sources of variation without select…

Annoying news re: the TalkOrigins Archive
reddit · 2024-08-02T13:24:35Z · status: new
There has been a recent hack attack on the Archive. If you visit the baseline http://www.talkorigins.org URL, an advertisement written in Indonesian now comes up. Fortunately, URLs pointing to pages within the Archive seem to have not been hacked in this way, and still come up normally. And of course the [Internet Archive's stored backup](https://web.archive.org/web/20240000000000*/www.talkorigins.org) of the Archive is still valid.

Creationist arguments are typically the same recycled arguments that were debunked decades ago
reddit · 2024-03-29T17:13:09Z · status: new
Having participated in C/E debates for going on 3 decades now, I'm still astounded to see the same creationists arguments being recycled year-after-year. For anyone who isn't familiar with it, there is an index of creationist claims on the Talk Origins web site: [An Index to Creationist Claims](http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/) Even though the list seems to have been last updated almost 2 decades ago, it's still highly relevant today. It covers hundreds of common creationist arguments complete with bit-sized re…

Rebutting creationwiki’s rebuttal
reddit · 2021-11-24T16:41:51Z · status: new
So we all know that talk origins made an index to creationist claims which addressed all of their statements. However, creationwiki responded (rather poorly based on the ones I have seen). Who’s thinking of making a counter rebuttal? If one is made, then we can post it on this Reddit or save it for a future blog/web writing. Any thoughts? Edit: Who doesn’t have to mean one person. You can post your rebuttal to some claims in this discussion.

Has anyone put together something like a talk.origins archive but for Covid?
reddit · 2021-08-10T17:56:26Z · status: new
One of the big frustrations with dealing with antivaxxers is that they can perpetually go to the well of bullshit, and have a hundred gish gallop arguments at the ready. The fact that many of these arguments are paradoxical (Covid is a bioweapon *and* the vaccine is a bioweapon?) doesn't matter. Talk Origins was a usenet group which basically created a numerical index of creationist claims to help deal with the bullshit. You can see it here. http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html So if someone says "life onl…

The website won't load for me no matter what computer i'm on. I've used their links in plenty of my posts and their Index to Creationist Claims rebuttals to talk.origins is extremely helpful. Hopefully this'll be fixed soon if there's a problem. Someone should definitely create a safer place for their Index in case something happens with their site again if they can get it back up.

Is The Talk Origins Archive still up to date?
reddit · 2018-08-14T19:00:17Z · status: new
Are people still operating the Talk Origins Archive and making sure that the science on the website is accurate and up to date? I have learned a lot from that website as it is a good reference site, but I know a lot of these pages seem to be from the 1990s and early to mid-2000s at best. Are there other sites addressing creationist claims that are more recent? I have looked at the ThoughtCo pages on evolution, as well as Stated Clearly animations, for example, but I don't know if there are others.

Hi there, looking if anyone has a pointer to some creationist rebuttals
reddit · 2015-12-16T01:46:33Z · status: new
First I will start by saying I am not an atheist, but I do not worship any god, though I do not rule out their existence. However, I do support the theory of evolution (I know it's not "just a theory"). I used to spend a lot of time looking into it and enjoying myself learning, especially on "Talk Origins", which has lots of fun stuff about evolution and history of the earth and universe. Recently, I was linked here: http://creationwiki.org/Index_to_Creationist_Claims which is a page which seems to go through many…

For the first time I clicked on the "Understanding Evolution" to the right of this web page, and was surprised to find talk.origins archive given as a reference. I'm an old man, and I thought you might like to know where that comes from. I started using "the internet" back in the days before it was called that, and saw the birth of that newsgroup. What you now call the internet started out as a federal government program to link research sites together for the exchange of information, and it was funded by ARPA and…

Do human ears have vestiges of jaw bones of ancestral tetrapods?
reddit · 2012-10-05T21:12:28Z · status: new
While browsing The TalkOrigin Archive, I came across the [this page](http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/CB/CB361.html). It states the following: "The bones of the middle ear, for example, are vestiges of jaw bones of ancestral tetrapods. " Am I missing something here, are they referring to human ears? I did a quick Google search and could not turn up anything about this. There were a handful of articles about other human ear vestiges, but none relating to ear bones.

What you need to get good at debating evolution....

is practice. I've noticed a lot of people who state that they don't feel comfortable debating evolution with creationists due to a lack of knowledge. I spent over a year on [this forum](http://www.topix.com/forum/news/evolution). There are some highly intelligent people arguing with several creationists at a time. Give it a go. Don't forget to go to talk origins for both an [index to creationist claims](http://talkorigins.org/indexcc/) and [evidence for evolution](http://talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/). I'm sure th…

I have been writing (and rewriting) my first app over the past few weeks. I'd like some people to know about it and start using it/giving me suggestions. It's a reader for the [Index to Creationist Claims](http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html). I am missing a few features at the moment. Namely, 1. An indicator that shows if the claim has children, has a response, or both. 2. A search feature 3. A quick access bar at the bottom of a claim to add to favorites, view siblings, open in browser, copy url, etc. 4…
